La BMW R 12 GS/S embodies the return of a myth: the boxer twin-cylinder trail, a purely retro but modernized proposal. Inspired by the legendary R 80 G/S from 1980, it combines a vintage aesthetic with a contemporary technique.
It receives the traditional motor 1,170 cm³ boxer air/oil, which is developing 109 hp @7,000 rpm and a generous couple of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
Its chassis uses a unibody tubular mesh frame with a bolted rear loop, suspended by an adjustable inverted fork (210 mm of travel) and a 200 mm Paralever rear suspension, offering ground clearance compatible with enduro practice (240 mm according to some markets).
On the equipment side, it offers driving modes as standard Rain, Road and Enduro, with a mode Enduro Pro optionally via the eponymous pack. It also has Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) And of MSR (engine brake control), which can be deactivated off-road.
As a finish, it comes in heritage colors (Light White with light blue/dark blue accents and red seat), matt black, or in an exclusive Option 719 Aragonit version — a nod to raid bikes.
